CARPET PRODUCTION

It all starts with a technical drawing.

Azerkhalcha OJSC currently has three professional carpet designers who prepare the technical drawings based on new carpet compositions. This meticulous work may take up to one week to finish the technical drawing before sending it to a workshop for weaving. Carpet designers need to be extremely attentive to details in order to connect the carpet elements and avoid mistakes that can lead to defects in a carpet. During the process our office employees pick threads of complementing colors.

Once the threads and technical drawings are ready, they are collected and sent to workshops for weaving.

Once the materials for a new carpet are collected at the workshop, the weavers start to work. The number of weavers at the loom vary depending on the size of the carpet. Souvenir carpets are created by one weaver, bigger carpets can take up to four weavers at the loom. Weaving 1 sq metre usually takes up to one month, depending on the complexity of the carpet composition.

In order to weave a carpet in a traditional way, our weavers use special tools such as: knife with a hook (for picking threads and cutting the threads to the needed length), comb (for smoothing

the threads line by line), hava/həvə (for hammering the knots

tu put them on place), scissors (to trim the carpet).

After the weaving process is done, a carpet is vacuum cleaned and sent to our workshop specially designated for post-processing.
